Snakes and Ladders is a metaphor of the children’s board game that illustrates the political uncertainty in Zimbabwe after the change in political leadership in 2017. The interminable reign of President Robert Mugabe, the only leader Zimbabwe had ever known, came to an end in a bloodless coup in November 2017. The crisis in Zimbabwe was all about Grace Mugabe daring to ascend into the leadership of ZANU-PF without liberation credentials. In Snakes and Ladders Rosselli tries to capture the widespread angst of a country that has waited decades for change and is on the cusp of discovering whether this transformation will be one of rebirth or not.
