About this artwork

Skeletons in the cupboard, 2023, Acrylic Paint on Canvas, 150 x 200 cm

This piece forms a series on the worldwide crisis of domestic violence towards women that has been further exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. This situation was brought closer to home when Rosselli lost a friend to domestic violence. This piece explores the way privacy afforded to the family unit hides domestic violence from public view; external appearances too often cloak a more sinister reality.  Rosselli uses fleshy tones with a petal-like consistency to evoke delicate, raw skin. Domestic violence is a language of terror that is only spoken by those involved. The turbulence of sweeping textures is akin to the ebb and flow of this conversation.
